From Vision To Art: The Rebirth Of anKouYao

OUR STORY
Our journey began with a simple yet powerful vision – allowing AnKou to present itself to the world in a brand-new form and once again radiate its brilliance .

AnkouYao Artistic Rural Construction Society is a public welfare organization jointly established by artists, non-fiction writers, anthropologists, sociologists, local chronicle scholars, folk art scholars, and handicraft makers. Currently, it mainly focuses on the sorting out of the Ankou ethnography and the exploration of the history of Ankou Kiln ceramic firing, and is also involved in the collection and organization of local customs, community building, rural aesthetics, military industrial heritage, industrial heritage, and oral history of handicraftsmen.

our actions

The involvement of art in rural development is a completely new and exploratory process for us.

Ankou Art Rural Reconstruction is a mutual respect and cooperation between “art” and “village”. From a perspective of symbiosis, we aim to enable artists, writers, anthropologists and sociologists to reevaluate the value of the unique local cultural heritage and context in Ankou through their perspectives, awaken the revitalization of regional comprehensive culture, discover Ankou’s distinctive life aspirations and new pursuits of the times, and involve more artists, writers and beneficial capital in the local creation process. We will contribute to the awakening of Ankou’s kilns that have been dormant, allowing Ankou to present itself to the world in a brand-new form and once again radiate its brilliance. Dandapu and Ankou are too different to follow any established patterns. Currently, we can only carry out some rescue excavation work.

Our voices

the people of Longdong have never ceased their pursuit and exploration of the Ankouo Pottery culture.

The AnkouYao Revival Experiment by the Liu Jianguo team of the Ankou Kiln Art Rural Reconstruction Society is like a crack that has been newly opened in this traditional handicraft that is about to come to an end. It allows this ancient skill to regain a glimmer of light transmission and reignite a flicker of hope. It showcases the challenges and opportunities that Ankou Kiln ceramic culture has faced in the process of its derivation, continuation, and transformation in contemporary art since the 20th century. At the same time, it also demonstrates the attitude of contemporary artists towards Ankou Kiln ceramic culture.
